Sanoma Data Oy, the IT service arm of publishing giant Sanoma Corporation has ordered an expansion to it's Flowman Virtual Prepress System
”The system Flowman provided in 2006 met the needs and demands we had at that time. All production tasks from the ready page file all the way through to plate output have now been fully automated in one consolidated system – groupwide”, says project manager Kimmo Lindström. “Consolidation is an important part of our IT strategy. This expansion now incorporates the actual plate making process into the consolidated production control.”
“We have six different press lines and thirteen different CTP lines within the group. Until now small differences in technology have forced us to manage some parts of the plate output manually” says Matti Mikkola, development manager of Sanoma’s printing arm, Sanomapaino Oy.. “Together with Flowman we have now found a solution to centrally control the whole process for all print sites. This releases resources from routine tasks to further develop quality and processes.”
Flomwan's solution connects the CTP lines and punch benders to the centralised process control. The Flowman Virtual Prepress System will then have real time status of all devices and can automatically select the most suitable device and appropriate page furniture. The Flowman Virtual Prepress System already includes a smart messaging interface which will be used for automated and centralised service call messaging.
The solution will be installed as an integrated part of the system hosted and controlled by Sanoma Data Oy. Reliability and scalability of the system is ensured with a multi-node clustered architecture distributed in two data centers. The system takes care of production for all titles and print sites groupwide as well as contract printing for publishers.
